The Avalon Hybrid features a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and two electric motors that make a combined 215 horsepower. The US Environmental Protection Agency rated Avalon Hybrid 40/39/40 mpg. The ratings make the Avalon Hybrid one of the most fuel-efficient large sedans in any driving situation, and the most efficient for city driving.

The Avalon Hybrid uses a 1.6 kWh sealed nickel-metal hydride traction battery, the same as the Camry Hybrid.
